Boiling a Frog
Do you know how to boil a frog? If you heat the water to boiling and then drop the frog in, he will jump right out! If you put him in a pan of cold water, and heat it slowly, you’ve got him! He doesn’t even notice the heat until it’s too late!
We can be compared to these frogs sometimes. We let “little” things get by in our lives; a little white lie, a little change in school policy (no prayer allowed), a little discrepancy in honor of an official (many politicians). We are complacent. We let things slide. We don’t stand up to stop the “little” things, and guess what?! The “little” things become the rule, and not the exception, and we are cooked – forced to abide by rules and consequences that we don’t support or believe in. All because we let the “little” things slide.
Proverbs 1:32 (NIV) says, “the complacency of fools will destroy them.”
We need to get our heads out of the sand. We need to educate ourselves. We need to be vigilant and hold not only ourselves, but those in power over us, to be honorable and to uphold the values that we hold dear. Otherwise we are just victims of our own complacency – cooked frogs!
