Calling Things Into Existence
We have to learn that our words are very powerful. Each time we speak, we call things to be, just as God did when he created the universe with His Words! Romans 4:17 (KJV) says, “(As it is written, I have made thee a father of many nations,) before him whom we believed, even God, who quickeneth the dead, and calleth those things which be not as though they were.”
Speaking things into existence is well documented in the Bible, as well as in life. We need to be careful in naming things, speaking things repeatedly, etc., because with each word that comes out of our mouths, there are actions set into motion – and we may not want the actions to come to fruition!
In Genesis, God changed the name of Abram (Exalted father) to Abraham (father of a multitude), and said he would be the father of many nations. At that time Abraham was 99 years old and child-less! (Genesis 17:4-6). As God, and everyone around him, called him ABRAHAM, he became fruitful. Each time his name was stated, whoever said it was saying, “Father of a multitude” and it came to pass! Also in Genesis 17: 15-16 God changed the name of Abraham’s wife, Sarai (my princess), to Sarah (Princess). Some scholars believe this change in name was because she went from being a princess to her own people to being a princess to the entire world. God said she would be the mother of many nations, and that kings would come from her. She was 90 years old at that time. When Abraham was one hundred years old, and Sarah was 91 years old, they had Isaac, their only son!
Have you ever known of someone speaking negatively, all the time, about something particular? For example, saying of a railroad crossing in their hometown, “Somebody’s gonna get killed there one of these days. Somebody’s gonna get killed there one of these days,” etc.? And then THAT person is the actual victim who dies at that railroad crossing? That’s a harsh example, but there are many more examples, I’m sure that you can think of, where things that were spoken came true. This is why we must change the way we speak. We must guard what comes out of our mouths, and not speak illness, death, injury, etc. on ourselves or others. We must speak life!
Wow! Our tongues are very powerful! Proverbs 21:23 (Amplified) says, “He who guards his mouth and his tongue guards himself from trouble.” Boy isn’t that the truth!? Once it escapes those lips, you can’t get it back!
People need kind words, and positive proclamations. Let’s build each other up, rather than tearing each other down! Let’s control our tongues, with the help of Jesus. Let’s speak good things into existence! Let’s speak life!
