Don’t You See It?
“The Lord says, ‘Forget what happened before, and do not think about the past. Look at the new thing I am going to do. It is already happening. Don’t you see it?'” Isaiah 43:18-19a NCV
After spending much of the last eight months without good vision, struggling to focus with impaired vision, this verse leapt off the page at me this morning! It made me wonder how many times God is working in our lives, orchestrating new things on our behalf, and He is wondering whether we are even noticing?!
I was reminded of the Psalmist, David. Many times he made reference to his own eyes. For example, in Psalm 66:5 (NIV), he says, “Come and see what God has done! His awesome deeds for mankind!” and in Psalm 119:18 (NIV), he says, “Open my eyes that I may see.”
On this eighth day of the New Year (knowing that eight is God’s number for new beginnings), let us endeavor to look for God in the happenings around us. In all of our over-stimulated, sensory-overloaded world where finding a quiet space is nearly impossible, let us begin to seek that place. Let us begin to purposefully look for God’s hand in our lives.
See Him in the sunrise. See Him in the blessings that surround us. We woke up this morning to a new day. We have breath in our lungs, so breathe Him in long and slow… We have a heart beating in our chests, so close your eyes and listen for the soft pulses in your body. Make yourselves aware of the magnificence and complexities of YOU. Know that there is a God Who formed YOU in your mother’s womb. Psalm 139:13-14 (NIV) says, “For You created my inmost being; You knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise You because I am fearfully and wonderfully made.” I encourage you to read that entire Psalm (139) every day!
Oh my goodness! Don’t you see how important you are to your Father God? Don’t you see how unique you are? You are no accident! No afterthought. No mistake. Look and see what God is doing on your behalf!
He has a plan for you. Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV) says, “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Maybe we need to open our eyes so we can see what HIS plan is? Maybe our plans haven’t been going so well? Maybe we need to open our eyes to His Will?
Don’t you see? Open your eyes! Let’s pray each morning for God to open our eyes and show us what He is doing in our lives. As we learn to listen and see each little thing, we will draw closer to Him and who knows what He may do?
Father God, You are an amazing God! You spoke the universe into existence, yet tenderly formed man with Your hands and lovingly breathed Your life into him. You know the beginning from the end, yet allow us to choose our own paths, even when they are not what is best for us. I thank You, once again, for eyes to see. I thank You for the gift and blessing of vision. I thank You for Your sovereignty over my life. Give me eyes to see what You are doing already in my life, on my behalf. Open my eyes to know what is the depth and breadth of Your love for me! Open my eyes to see the others who You would have me see, and love. I thank You for a new day to seek You and to find You, and to see what You are up to! I ask all of these things in the name of Jesus! Amen! So Be It!
