It Can Wait Until Tomorrow…
Scripture Speaks to Us
“Then Pharoah called for Moses and Aaron and said, “Entreat the Lord that He remove the frogs from me and from my people, and I will let the people go, that they may sacrifice to the Lord.”
And Moses said to Pharoah, “The honor is yours to tell me: when shall I entreat for you and your servants and your people, that the frogs be destroyed from you and your houses, that they may be left only to the Nile?”
Then he said, “Tomorrow.” So he said, “May it be according to your word, that you may know that there is no one like the Lord our God.” Exodus 8:8-10, NIV
Our Response to God’s Word
In the 8th chapter of Exodus, we see recordings of some of the plagues that were brought on the Egyptians so that the Pharoah would let the Israel slaves go free. When given the opportunity to get rid of the plague of frogs, Pharoah asked that they be removed “tomorrow.”
There are many schools of thought as to why the Pharoah would want to live one more night with the frogs? Some say it may have been because he thought the frogs would go away on their own eventually, and he didn’t want Moses and his God to get any credit for it. Some say it was because he was trying to show how strong he was, not really bothered by the frogs. I think he just displayed normal human nature.
How many times have we waited one more night to rid our own lives of our frogs? One more night with addiction. One more night with an abusive partner. One more night… you fill in the blank. Do we, like Pharoah, think it will go away on its own? Are we, like Pharoah, too proud to admit that it’s a problem?
Let us determine today to examine our lives for frogs that need to be removed. Let us trust God for the strength, wisdom, and determination to let Him get rid of them. We really don’t have to do any work, we only need to trust God to free us.
Join Us in Prayer
Father God, You are sovereign. You have promised to help free us from traps we have fashioned out of our own human nature. Help us to examine our hearts, our actions, our priorities, our fears. Help us to lay them at Your feet. Today. Help us to develop a habit to do this daily, so that we may live the life You have planned for us. We give You thanks, and glory, and honor, in the name of Jesus. Amen.
