Let’s Talk About Joy: Definitions
I always think it’s important to know what words mean. Here are a few definitions that pertain to this study of joy:
*Overcome: to conquer, to get the better of, to overpower or overwhelm a person physically or emotionally.
*Master: a man in control or authority; someone who gets the better of a rival; to gain control over; to become completely skilled in; someone regarded as great in his field; a skilled workman qualified to work on his own; a person in authority over something or someone.
*Bondage: slavery; subjection to the constraint of duty or some strong desire.
*Endurance: the capacity to keep going or put up with; to remain, to set in purpose; built to endure.
*Force: mental or moral strength in the overcoming of opposition; the capacity to convince; influence or affect; any influence or agency that produces a change.
*Perfect: complete or correct in every way; neither major nor minor in character; remaining unaltered in character when inverted. **opposite of perfect: lacking, flawed, worthless, unfinished.
*Entire: whole, complete; not broken or damaged.
*Wanting: the state or fact of having too little of something desired or needed; in need. ** opposite of wanting: enjoy, have, own, abundance, riches, wealth.
*Fall: to drop by gravity, to lose balance, to lose position, to be captured, to slope downward, to take on an expression of disappointment or dismay; eyes to be suddenly lowered; to seem to descend, to pass into some state; to cease to resist a temptation; to turn through force of circumstances to something that which serves a s a substitute; to fail to keep pace with a schedule; collapse; decline, decrease, lesson, plunge, sink, weaken, stumble, topple, tumble, droop. **opposite of fall: arise, ascend, climb, reach, scale, soar.
*Count: calculate, compute, consider, figure, reckon, value, weigh.
*Divers: motley, various in character.
