Let’s Talk About Love: God’s Love – Page 1
Now that you have an idea about what love is, let’s begin to see what is God’s love. 1 Corinthians 14:1 (Amplified) says, “Eagerly pursue and seek to acquire this love – make it your aim, your great quest.” God’s Word is filled with examples of His love toward us. Even when God made the first man, Adam, He showed love toward him. First, God made Adam in His own image. How blessed is mankind to have been formed in the image of Almighty God!
Genesis 1:27 (Amplified) says, “So God created man in His own image, in the image and likeness of God He created him; male and female He created them.” Everything that God created in the beginning was made by the Words of God’s mouth – except for man.
Genesis 2:7 (Amplified) says, “then the Lord God formed [that is, created the body of] man from the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and the man became a living being [an individual complete in body and spirit].” Even we as humans create things we love. We put special time and interest into the things we love.
Again God showed love toward Adam. When He saw that Adam was lonely in the Garden of Eden, God created woman (Eve) to be his helpmate. Again, God used His own hands to form Eve, and breathed His own breath of life into her. Genesis 2:21-22 (Amplified) says, “So the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam; and while he slept, He took one of his ribs and closed up the flesh at that place. And the rib which the LORD God had taken from the man He made (fashioned, formed) into a woman, and He brought her and presented her to the man.”
Adam and Eve enjoyed fellowship with God. They knew His voice. He walked with them in the garden. Then sin entered in, and the “living soul” that God had breathed into them died. Adam and Eve were separated from God and no longer knew that fellowship that they had previously enjoyed. But GOD STILL LOVED THEM!
Here are a few examples of God’s love toward man (US!). Read them, meditate on them, so you can get acquainted with this God who loves us, and so you can see the lengths He has gone to in order to show us this love!
*After Adam and Eve sinned in the Garden of Eden, God showed His love by making clothes for them (Genesis 3:21).
*When, in Noah’s day, God saw that all the earth was wicked and vowed to destroy it, God loved Noah. Noah found favor with God; walked with God. God remembered Noah and saved him and his house from the destruction of the Great Flood. You can find this story in Genesis 6:1-9:7.
*After the flood, God showed His love again for mankind promising never again to destroy every living creature (Genesis 9:8-17).
*God showed His love to Abram and Sarai by making a covenant with them, changing their names to Abraham and Sarah, and blessing them time and time again (Genesis 12:1-25:8).
*God showed His love for Abraham’s seed, Joseph, and his family by placing Joseph in a place of authority in Egypt so that his family would not starve during a great famine, and so they would prosper in Egypt (Genesis 37:1-50:26).
*God showed His love toward Moses many times throughout his life. The wonderful story of the life of Moses and his walk with God can be found in Exodus 2:5-Deuteronomy 34:12.
*Several hundred years after Moses’ life came David, a young shepherd boy who God anointed as the King of Israel. God loved David, and showed His love for him many, many times by delivering him from danger and forgiving his iniquities. God even said that David was a man after His own heart! The story of David can be found from Ruth 4:17-1 Chronicles 29:28.
*The entire New Testament depicts God’s ultimate sacrifice of love for mankind in sending Jesus, His only Son, to live on earth; die by crucifixion on a cross; descend into hell and conquer Satan, death, and sickness; rise from death to be seated victoriously at the right hand of God the Father so He may be an advocate for you and me all the days of our lives! Wow!
I’m going to let you chew on that for awhile. Look up these wonderful stories so you can get a picture of this God who loves you so very much!
